By Ryan Sikes
Lance Berkman
Drafted out of Rice University, Berkman helped the Owls to their first World Series appearance before being selected in the 1997 MLB Draft. With a .297/.388/.561 slash line, 21 bombs, and 67 RBI, Berkman finished sixth in NL Rookie of the Year voting.
2001 was the beginning of what would end up being six All-Star selections throughout his 15-year career. That year, he hit an MLB-leading 55 doubles and drove in 126 runs as well. And for the next decade, he was one of the most feared hitters in the NL Central Division.
He finished in the top five NL-MVP voting four times and won a World Series title with the St. Louis Cardinals during the 2011 season. When Berkman called it quits after the 2013 season, he had accumulated a 52.0 WAR.
Lance Parrish
The Detroit Tigers tabbed Parrish as their first-round selection in the 1974 MLB Draft. Making his Major League debut in 1977, Parrish would remain with Detroit for the first ten years of his career.
He posted a combined .263/.317/.469 slash line with 212 home runs and 700 RBI while playing outstanding defense behind home plate.
Over his 19-year career, Parrish threw out 39 percent of runners, which was well above the league-average 33 percent during that same span. He was selected to eight All-Star games while also playing for the Phillies, Angels, Mariners, Indians, Pirates, and Blue Jays.
For his defensive efforts, Parrish earned three Gold Glove awards and finished within the top ten AL-MVP voting during the 1983 season. That year, he hit .314 while smacking 27 bombs and driving in 114 runs. When he called it quits after the 1995 season, Parrish had collected a 39.5 WAR for his career.
