3. Episode Nine

The second to last episode premiered on the fifth Sunday out of five. It was a brilliant episode that captured so many great moments from that 1997 season that saw the Chicago Bulls win their fifth title in seven years. There were many underlying stories that led to the series victory over the Utah Jazz. So many great memories came out of that and some of them were precursed by events of the past.

The episode dipped a little bit into the life and career of Steve Kerr. Kerr was a great NBA role player and is now one of the league’s best coaches. In addition to his titles that he was a part of as a player, he has led the Golden State Warriors to multiple titles themselves and is a modern-day dynasty in their own right. Kerr lost his father earlier on in his life and the movie detailed how it went down and what it meant for him.

The main focus of the episode, once the Kerr story was told, was “The Flu Game”. We learned some things about that game that we otherwise might not have known. We also saw how this game was the one that really made it clear that Jordan was officially the greatest basketball player who ever lived. He was able to put the team on his back while clearly so sick, on the road, and they took a 3-2 series lead. They would eventually win the title two days later on the home court. It was a brilliant episode that told a brilliant story.
