5. Scottie Pippen deserved more credit than the average fan would give him
If you were to ask an average fan who carried the Bulls in Jordan’s absence, some would tell you that is was a team effort. But in reality, for two years, it was Pippen’s teams. Pippen, who was second to Jordan for all six of his championships, proved that he could carry a team.
While Pippen was also vastly underpaid, he did show that he could at least keep the Bulls afloat, leading the franchise to 55 wins during the 1993-94 season and then 47 wins during the 1994-1995 season.
In today’s NBA, would Pippen have been a superstar? Yes, there’s no doubt about that. He likely would have also been able to carry his team. The point is that Pippen, even back in the 1990’s, likely could have been on another team and figured out a way to lead a team. His ability to step up during the time that Jordan was absent proved that had Jordan never come back, the Bulls could have figured out a way to get over the hump, with Pippen leading the way.
