Chicago Cubs: Three players who could be a DH
The Chicago Cubs are capable of fielding a really good lineup. They have a lot of great players looking to help them get back to the playoffs after a really disappointing 2019 season. They also have some players who can be a designated hitter on days where they need a break from their normal position. If Willson Contreras needs a day off from catching, the Cubs certainly might want to keep his bat in the lineup.
Catching is a strenuous position on the human body and these guys get rested more than any position player. The Cubs are certainly going to give Victor Caratini some time behind the plate which will relieve Contreras. He is one of the Cubs better hitters so on his days off from catching, it would be wise to use him in this DH role if he is willing to do it.
Contreras is one of the best offensive catchers in the game of baseball. He had 24 home runs, 64 RBIs, and 57 runs scored to go along with his .272/.355/.533 slash line. Those are pretty good numbers for a catcher. His WAR of 3.1 shows that he is a great catcher on both sides of the dish. His 2019 batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage were improvements over his career averages of those stats. Contreras is a guy the Cubs are going to want to bat as often as they can.
