1. Quarterback

You probably knew that this one was going to be on the list. But guess what, quarterback may or may not be a need for the Bears in 2021. If Mitchell Trubisky plays well in 2020, then he’ll likely be franchise tagged in 2021. However, if he falters in 2020, the Bears will turn to Nick Foles while Trubisky will likely hit the free agent market.

This would mean that Foles is the starter going into 2021. But here’s the issue: He’d be 32 years old meaning the Bears would need to begin figuring out a long-term solution at the position. However, Foles is under contract until at least 2022 with the Bears meaning that the Bears could draft a replacement in 2021, groom him, and then have him takeover in 2022.

While the 2021 NFL Draft is headlined by Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Ohio State’s Justin Fields, there are quarterbacks such as North Dakota State’s Trey Lance that could end up being mid-to-late first-round picks that the Bears could take a chance on.

Overall, when looking at the quarterback situation for the Bears, there are multiple ways it could play out. However, this is a need to keep an eye on because what happens in 2020 could end up determining what direction the Bears choose to take for at least the next five years.
