Changing Their Ways…

Hindsight is twenty-twenty, but if the Bears and Matt Nagy want to experience sustained success in this league then Chicago must start to continually invest in their quarterback position. I’m not saying that Chicago had to utilize an early draft pick on a passer this past draft, but you mean to tell me they weren’t willing to take a flier on the likes of Anthony Gordon or say, Cole McDonald?

This needs to stop now, and Nagy needs to begin turning his eyes to the 2021 NFL Draft prospect pool. Why is that? Well, it looks like a long-shot that Mitchell Trubisky will ever live up to his draft position, and even if Nick Foles performs well, he’ll only ever be a bridge option. Time for Nagy to start being held accountable for his offense — his quarterback.

So, who could the Bears look toward drafting? While some publications and analysts are predicting Chicago to finish the upcoming season with a lackluster record, I believe this team will finish right around 9-7, give or take a game. What does that mean? It means I doubt the Bears will finish the season badly enough to “earn” a top-pick that could possibly land them Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields.

Have no fear, Bears fans… There should be a bundle of other talent outside of the top-ten that should entice the Bears brass. How about a Jamie Newman or a Sam Howell? Wouldn’t that be something, Ryan Pace decides to move on from Mitchell Trubisky just to go ahead and draft another North Carolina product — I can already see Bears fans revolting across the lakeside.

Even looking outside of the draft, the Bears could look to add a couple of signal callers by buying low on a young, free agent like DeShone Kizer or even an XFL standout like, Luis Perez.

I know it seems hard in a league where you don’t know how long your tenure will be with a given franchise, but I promise that if Matt Nagy wants to build a championship contender then he must start to continually invest in the quarterback position. Not only will Nagy be pleasing the millions of Bears fans across the world, but I assure you that he’ll also be making his mentor, Andy Reid very proud…
