The Failure…

During Nagy’s time in Kansas City he saw Reid resurrect the career of Alex Smith. However, after seeing a resurgence from Smith, Reid didn’t just rest easy. Pulling his coaches and scouting staff together, their goal was to evaluate the 2017 NFL Draft crop of passing talent. Their conclusion? Patrick Mahomes was the top talent.

Even after progressing Smith, Andy Reid decided to flip the quarterback in a trade for valuable capital and catapult Patrick Mahomes into the driver’s seat of the Chiefs offense. Mahomes quickly became famous for off-platform throws, an absolute hose for an arm and of course, taunting the Bears for passing on him as a draft prospect…

While Mahomes was busy collecting a league MVP Award and a Super Bowl Championship, Andy Reid was busy working his genius and eyeing some quarterbacks that the Chiefs could acquire using unique channels of acquisition…

More from Chicago Bears

Enter Jordan Ta’amu of the St. Louis Battlehawks and former top-recruit, Shea Patterson. What do these two players have in common? Well, Kansas City was able to acquire both for pennies on the dollar and can now develop them at their own pace.

Do we remember Andy Reid’s time in Philadelphia? Donovan McNabb, Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick. Each season Reid made sure to retool and reload at the quarterback position. Whatever team he would be coaching, Andy Reid always ensured to have multiple succession plans for whomever may whined up under center.

To date this is my biggest gripe with Matt Nagy’s tenure so far with the Chicago Bears. I mean, could you blame Ryan Pace for not adding to the Bears crop of quarterbacks? Sure, however, it’s clear-as-day that Nagy has final say on who the team’s quarterback will be come week one and into the future.

Why has Nagy been so scared to pump some new life into the Bears quarterback room? After all, he is an offensive “guru,” right?

Chase Daniel and Nick Foles are both retreads, having spent time with Nagy at previous NFL stops. Heck, even Tyler Bray was a familiar face. So, what gives? Also, please make sure not to come at me with that, “Well, Ryan Pace is obviously the General Manager!”

Nagy has been hesitant to bring in young, raw passers and it’s become a hinderance to the Bears organization. Don’t you think Mitchell Trubisky would be going the extra mile if he felt the heat of a hungry, young passer breathing down his neck? I tend to believe that a strong tide makes all boats rise, and those that don’t get swept away into abyss. Guess it’s finally time to see if Trubisky can captain the vessel that is “S.S. Chicago.”

The even more frustrating point is that other disciples of the Andy Reid coaching tree are implementing this strategy and are reaping the rewards of always thinking a step ahead of the competition. Lets take a look at some of Matt Nagy’s peers that are making Andy Reid proud…
