Chicago Bulls: An early look at 5 free agent big men

3. Power Forward Bobby Portis, Club Option
Depending on what the New York Knicks end up wanting to do with Bobby Portis, they could let him go after the 2019-2020 season. How about a reunion in Chicago?
Portis is one of my favorite draft picks from the last decade, mainly because of how he plays the game with intensity. He also improved greatly every year with the Bulls, and now he would have an opportunity to come back if Chicago was interested.
I think Chicago went out and drafted Portis’ replacement in Daniel Gifford, but again, there is no telling what Karnisovas and his crew will do now that they’re in charge. It’s important to keep all options on the table. So, if Portis could come in and play meaningful minutes on this Bulls team, I’d be all for it.
Portis’ best season came the year before he was traded, where he averaged 26 minutes per game and scored over 14 points while grabbing 8.1 boards per contest. He actually developed a strong three-point shot, too, which was impressive to see from a guy who was inconsistent in that realm beforehand.
With the Knicks this year, he ended up playing the least amount of minutes in his last three seasons. Thus, his averages went down. I wonder if this is what he envisioned after signing a free agent deal with New York.
