Week 8 vs. New Orleans Saints

The Bears have not beaten the Saints since a home victory back on December 11, 2008 when they won by a score of 27-24. In their last three home games versus the Saints, the Bears have given up an average of 31 points per game, and one of those was without Drew Brees — last season when Teddy Bridgewater led New Orleans to victory.

This year might be Brees’ last hurrah. His big announcement that he was coming back for another run gave Saints’ fans every reason to be amped for the coming season, and they just might do it. This is a team built to win a championship at this very moment.

Remember when I said this is not a team you want to see in a shootout? The Bears could have a hard time matching New Orleans’ offense in this one, unless Chicago’s defense comes up with some enormous plays. I’ll never count this defense out of a game, but it’s not the defense I’m worried about.

I also think the Saints’ defense will be better than they were last year (and they were actually pretty good on most days). In 2019, New Orleans gave up the fourth-fewest rushing yards in the league. Looking at the current state of the Bears, I’m not sold on their running game. The offensive line still needs big-time improvement if they’re going to get anything going on the ground this season.

So, that might mean the game is in the hands of Nick Foles or Mitchell Trubisky. Do we really think either one could lead the Bears’ offense to 25-plus points primarily through the air? That’s a tough task. I think the Bears drop this game to the Saints.
