6. The final out

You knew this was coming or you probably asked yourself: When is the final out going to included on this list? Well congratulations, you’ve made it this far. Let’s be honest: The final out of the 2016 World Series will go down as the most important out ever in Cubs history.

What a lot of fans seem to forget is that the Cubs called on Mike Montgomery to finish the game off. However, Montgomery had never gotten a save his career. That fact alone is what makes this moment so much better.

And credit to Maddon for his gutsy decision to go with Montgomery during a time where the Indians had a chance to tie the game and the potentially win the series. Additionally, on the final out, the field was still wet due to the rain that had occurred earlier. While third baseman Kris Bryant was throwing the ball to Anthony Rizzo, his foot would slip, which showed on various replays.

Looking back at it, the Cubs faced adversity on many different occasions throughout the 2016 playoffs. However, the ability of Maddon and the Cubs to stick together and ensure that everyone battled until the final out is what made this moment, as well as the entire World Series so great.
