1. Dexter Fowler’s Leadoff Home Run
The Cubs already had momentum going into game seven, after victories in games five and six, Dexter Fowler would leadoff with a big home run to keep the momentum going. There’s a lot of significance to what Fowler did.
First, he became the first player in the history of the MLB to hit a leadoff home run in game seven of the World Series. Then he was also one of four African-American players on the Cubs roster that year to appear in a World Series for the Cubs.
And then there’s the fact that Fowler was also the first African-American player to start a World Series game for the Cubs, something which is a truly remarkable historic feat. The point is that while many will remember Fowler for his leadoff homerun, he’s essentially rewritten the history books for the Cubs. something that will have an impact on this franchise forever.
