Chicago Bears: Roddy White forgot about these black quarterbacks
By Ryan Heckman
3. Jason Campbell
Another guy White must have forgotten about was Jason Campbell, a 9-year veteran. Campbell got his start with the Washington Redskins as a former first-round pick back in 2005. Coming out of Auburn, Campbell was riding high on a Sugar Bowl MVP performance.
Chicago Bears
During his years in Washington, Campbell went 20-32 as a starter. His best season came in his final year with the Redskins, 2009, when he threw for 3,618 yards and 20 touchdowns. He was also a dual-threat, rushing for over 200 yards in three different seasons.
From Washington, he was dealt to the Oakland Raiders where he would go on to start in 18 games over two seasons, finishing with a record of 11-7 overall. He then signed with the Bears after the Raiders did not extend his contract in 2011.
Campbell played for the Bears back in 2012, when White was still in the league — figured I’d get that tidbit in there.
As a backup, Campbell ended up completing 32 of 51 passes that season for 265 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran for 28 yards. His limited action came at a time when starter Jay Cutler was injured, but his experience as a backup was valuable.
