Detroit Lions: Jeffery Okudah, CB, Ohio State

Round 1, 3rd Overall

The Detroit Lions were able to put together a strong overall 2020 NFL Draft class, led by the selection of cornerback Jeffrey Okudah at No. 3 overall. There is also a lot to like about the selection of De’Andre Swift in the second round, but Okudah was one of the premier players in the entire class, making this choice pretty easy.

Okudah has it all at the cornerback position. He has an impressive combination of size, length, speed and quickness on the outside. He is physical at the line of scrimmage and troughout the route. Okudah also shows fantastic natural mirroring ability in coverage and attacks the ball in the air extremely well.

With tremendous closing speed and mental awareness on the field, Okudah also does a great job of baiting the quarterback into making poor decisions. He is a potential lockdown man-to-man cornerback on the outside who also shines in zone coverage.

With Okudah locking down one side of the field, the Lions are going to be able to get much more aggressive on the defensive side of the ball. He is a tremendous asset in the modern NFL and immediately gives the Lions a fantastic player who they can build their defense around.
