Chicago Bears: An early look at potential surprise roster cuts
By Ryan Heckman
4. Wide Receiver Javon Wims
I think there were a lot of people who initially thought Javon Wims might be an odd man out come camp when the Bears went out and signed veteran Ted Ginn Jr. The former seventh-round pick out of Georgia still has yet to break out and see any real meaningful usage as a pro.

Wims has impressed me at times. I like him. I like what he brings to the table. His big, tall frame is a fantastic weapon for quarterbacks to use in certain situations. But, for whatever reason, he hasn’t earned enough playing time and I think he could be cut when it’s all said and done.
The Bears will keep Allen Robinson, Anthony Miller, Darnell Mooney, Cordarrelle Patterson and, in all likelihood, Riley Ridley along with Ginn. So, does that mean that the Bears would then carry a seventh wideout?
The only way I see that happening is if they shockingly part ways with last year’s fourth rounder, Ridley, or somehow don’t end up seeing enough out of the aging Ginn in training camp. The other guys are locks for the roster, especially considering Pace traded up for the rookie fifth-round pick Mooney.
Wims would go on to find a home elsewhere, of course, and maybe even make the Bears look foolish for releasing him. But, Nagy hasn’t seemed to find a real strong use for him just yet. And, if they plan to keep who I think they’ll keep, Wims looks like he’ll be the odd man out.
