Chicago Bulls 2-Round Mock Draft: A potential steal falls

Speaking of a program that typically doesn’t gain nationwide notoriety on a consistent basis, let’s talk about one of the greatest athletes in San Deigo State history. Malachi Flynn is a 6-foot-1 point guard who sat out an entire season after transferring from Washington State, just so he could be part of a winning organization.

The wait was well-worth it for Flynn, who was part of a legendary 30-2 record for the Aztecs this past year, and would have gone on as one of the top eight seeds in this year’s tournament. Of course, with the tournament being postponed, Flynn never got his chance to bask in the spotlight.

In the second round, though, the Bulls would be taking their shot on a potential backup point guard of the future, behind Coby White. Flynn averaged 17.6 points, 5.1 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game last season for San Diego State.

At the moment, it’s tough to measure where Flynn will be drafted. Some have him in the early 20’s, while others have him in the mid-to-late 30’s. Again, this draft class is a tough one to project.

Flynn is an incredibly smart and valuable player, though. He isn’t the most athletically gifted. But, he knows the game of basketball. He is an analytical stud. He is one of the class’ best when it comes to the pick-and-roll, as well as finishing the season as one of the nation’s top guys in steal percentage (h/t Bleacher Report’s sleeper profile).

With both of these picks, I think the Bulls are landing steals. Toppin and Flynn could become valuable assets in this organization’s future, which is impressive considering how overlooked this draft class has been.
