Chicago Blackhawks: Three forwards to trade for defense
The Chicago Blackhawks have a problem with acquiring players that they used to have on their team. Andrew Shaw has been a pretty good player throughout his NHL career and deserves credit, but sometimes it gets old seeing the Hawks retrace their steps. Well, now it might be wise to try and use Shaw to acquire some defensive help. An elite team ready to go after the Cup might really want a player like Shaw in their bottom six.
The Blackhawks have seen Shaw be more than just a good player for them. He is a character player that a lot of teams covet. That amount of love for a guy isn’t measured on a stat sheet but the Blackhawks need to do whatever they can to help their goal prevention. If a good team with a loaded defensive pool wanted a player like Shaw, they might be willing to make the move.
Shaw knows what it takes to win. He was an integral part of two teams that have won the Stanley Cup. He made plays that will always be remembered, including an overtime winner in the Stanley Cup Final. A team that needs experience might be willing to give up something nice for him. He will be 29 by the start of the 2020-21 season so he isn’t old by any means either. If the Hawks are able to get any good defenseman for any of these guys, it is a no brainer.
