Chicago Bears: 3 free agent running backs to address weakness
By Ryan Heckman
3. Carlos Hyde
This is so bizarre. Carlos Hyde is also from the 2014 NFL Draft, having started his career with the San Francisco 49ers. It seems like he’s been in the league even longer than Freeman, which is incredible.
What’s even more incredible? Hyde is coming off the best rushing season of his career and still does not have a job. Last season with the Houston Texans, Hyde filled in for Lamar Miller (also without a job, currently). Hyde proceeded to run for 1,070 yards — the first time he’s gone over that mark in his career.
Hyde isn’t much of a receiving back by nature, but he did catch 59 passes back in 2017. That happened to be his last year with the Niners. Since then, he’s played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns and most recently Houston.
I feel like giving a minimal deal to someone who just ran for over 1,000 yards is a win-win, low-risk situation for the Bears. Hyde gets a job and the Bears get their ideal backup.
I’d be on board with any of these three, but I think I’d prefer someone who is currently healthy and has recently had success like Hyde, although Freeman is also a tantalizing name.
Which one of these would you rather the Bears sign? Let us know.
