Chicago Bears: Crucial, updated offseason storylines to watch closely

5. Musical chairs at tight end
The whole world seems to know how many tight ends the Bears currently have on the roster. Here’s what we know: Jimmy Graham and Cole Kmet are locks to make the roster. After that is where the real competition begins with seven players fighting for a roster spot. One name that will likely make the roster is Demetrius Harris, who the Bears signed earlier in the offseason because of his familiarity with Matt Nagy’s system.
Another name to closely watch for whenever the Bears return to Halas Hall would be J.P. Holtz, who was with the team in 2019. While Holtz will never be a top tier starter in the NFL, he did prove last season that he could play with toughness and that he can be used as a fullback as well.
Overall, while the Bears tight end room seems to be a mess, it will all depend on how many tight ends the team decides to carry. If they carry five tight ends, it’ll likely be Graham, Kmet, Harris, Holtz, and then either Adam Shaheen or Ben Braunecker.
