3. Willing blocker

Before I get thrown under the bus for what looks like a ridiculous statement at first, let me explain. Read this for exactly what it says: Kmet is a willing blocker.

He’s willing. He’s a far cry from an All Pro when it comes to blocking, but he is willing. The kid has never backed down from taking on that responsibility within an offense, and you have to like that.

I like the way Lance Zierlein of NFL.com puts it in his profile outlining Kmet’s outlook. Zierlein writes that Kmet “will come across formation and land a blow on wham blocks.” He also adds that Kmet runs his fee through blocks and plays heavy inside his pads, being willing to absorb contact.

Now, his technique and instincts need plenty of work when it comes to blocking. It takes the correct timing and anticipation to land and secure a successful block, and that’s something Kmet doesn’t currently have. But, he is willing to do it and, knowing what kind of person he is, I’m sure he is also eager to improve.

Remember that body control we talked about when it comes to catching the football. Kmet is not incapable of being a good blocker. If he wants to become a great NFL tight end, he will learn to become a better blocker. He is more than willing and, with the help of tight ends coach Clancy Barone, I think he can do so.
