Chicago Bulls Rumors: Two head coaching candidates to replace Jim Boylen
Ime Udoka, Assistant Coach Philadelphia 76ers
Another undrafted NBA journeyman who earned his first ring as a coach, Ime Udoka could follow in his former boss Eversley’s footsteps and come to Chicago.
Udoka’s coaching resume doesn’t have as many stops as Griffin, but stability can be a good thing. From 2012 to 2019, Udoka was stationed on Gregg Popovich‘s bench. His coaching timeline with the San Antonio Spurs also overlaps with Boylen’s time there.
(How could we ever forget that Boylen worked with Popovich? Oh yeah, he brings it up all the time.)
Udoka earned his ring with the 2014 Spurs squad that took down one of those unbearable LeBron-led Miami Heat teams. Under the watchful eye of Udoka, Kawhi Leonard was the 2014 Finals MVP and became the best two-way player in the league.
Udoka has been with Brett Brown and the Philadelphia 76ers since 2019. It is also worth mentioning that Udoka has never missed the playoffs in his coaching career.
Being a part of a consistent winner is something that Bulls players are starved for, and Udoka could give that sense of success to players and fans alike. His part in developing players like Kawhi Leonard could also give forwards like Markkanen and Carter the ability to take that crucial next step.
A change in culture is what is in store for the Bulls if Udoka takes the reigns, which could make Chicago all the more attractive of a destination for impending free agents.
