The Chicago Blackhawks are an older team looking to try and possibly make one more run with guys like Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. That might make adding a guy like Mike Green to the mix for a year or two could look like a smart idea. Let’s make it clear, Mike Green isn’t the defenseman that he once was. He is the last defenseman to score 30 goals in the National Hockey League when he scored 31 in 2008-09.

He was with the high powered Washington Capitals at the time. He signed with the Detroit Red Wings ahead of the 2015-16 season and played there for five years. This season he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers where he only got in two games for them thanks to some injuries and the pause of the season. He probably would have made somewhat of a difference by the time the playoffs rolled around for the Oilers.

Green isn’t anywhere near the offensive stud that he once was, but he would be a cheap improvement over a lot of the guys the Blackhawks have had on the blue line over the past three seasons. It would be nice to add some veteran leadership that could help out these young guys. Green might have one more stop left in the tank before he hangs them up for good.
