Things started to get really bad under the ownership of the late Bill Wirtz. The team was bad and cheap, they weren’t showing home games on television, and the city of Chicago started to lose interest in one of the NHL’s most prominent franchises. It got really bad before things started to get better. When Bill passed away in 2007 his son Rocky Wirtz took over and the rest, as they say, was history.

The team started to, under Rock’s command, make better decisions. That led to the right hockey people being put in place and they started to have success. Rocky Wirtz is given a lot of credit for this team going from the literal bottom to the top. Now, Danny Wirtz is a candidate now to assume the role of President and CEO now that McDonough is gone. He has already assumed the role as the interim President and CEO as he was the vice before.

He may or may not pass it off to someone else as he is still heavily involved in his beverage business as well. This is a good candidate, however. He was named the vice president earlier in his life for a reason and that is because of his leadership skills. This could be a move that is just because of the family name but he is actually a fit to have this responsibility. They did say that they will begin a search for a new one but you never know how that goes.
