Finally, it all comes down to the loyalty of Stan Bowman. There have been some, already noted, bad decisions made by this GM and President combo. John McDonough has stayed loyal to Stan and his friendship with Stan’s father Scottie Bowman is well documented. It cost Joel Quenneville his job and it clearly looks bad right now. There is no other excuse for staying so loyal to a group of front office folks who aren’t getting the job done.

Now that John is gone, it has to be assumed that those below him are next. Chicago was on the verge of missing the postseason for the third straight season before the coronavirus pause. They need to now move on from Bowman next. Colliton is there and should probably be let go too but it isn’t his fault. He was never going to be able to truly succeed in this mess. It is actually fair to root for him to succeed with another team.

As far as Bowman, you can probably expect him to be released at some point. Whoever they hire to be their new President and CEO will probably want to hire their own general manager and coach. It would be the right thing to do for that new president. Keeping Stan Bowman for too long is probably the biggest reason of them all for John McDonough losing his job.
