Coach Q

The fact that John McDonough allowed Stan Bowman to fire the greatest coach in the history of the National Hockey League was another big key in this team turning into a dumpster fire. They fired coach Joel Quenneville a month or so into the 2018-19 season which was a terrible mistake. When you have the best coach in the history of the league, you should probably leave him in place. Anyone you bring in isn’t going to do a better job.

Yes, even the best coaches have an expiration date but this was different. The team was struggling because of bad roster decisions. Coach Q was getting more out of them than they probably should have. This is a move that the Blackhawks should forever regret because it was clearly the wrong decision.

John McDonough chose loyalty to the Bowman family over Coach Q and it cost him. Now, he is out of a job because he didn’t do the right things. Chances are, they will bring in someone to replace McDonough that accepts his role on the team and doesn’t allow bad decisions to be made in the long term to try and help the short term. Hockey operations are the most important thing to an organization and this duo failed miserably over the last few seasons.
