Chicago Bears: Where Mitch Trubisky could end up after 2020
By Ryan Fedrau
Pittsburgh Steelers
Mitch Trubisky ended up with the Pittsburgh Steelers seems like an unlikely match, or does it? The Steelers had their first taste of no Ben Roethlisberger last season due to injury. Quarterback Mason Rudolph stepped in for eight games, going 5-3, while the team missed the playoffs.
Rudolph is a work in progress who still has time to learn under Roethlisberger, as he still has a few more years left. If the Steelers have a chance to sign Trubisky for a cheap deal, I don’t think they’d pass that up.
First off, Roethlisberger was impressed Trubisky in 2017. Second, he has given Trubisky advice publicly and possibly privately too. Both guys seem to like each other, that would be a solid fit for Trubisky’s morale and confidence.
I don’t think Mike Tomlin is going anywhere anytime soon if the team can clean up their act and make the playoffs in 2020. Even though they’re in a rough division, the return of Roethlisberger could spell playoffs.
If Tomlin and Randy Fichtner were given the chance to work with Trubisky for a season or two, they could mold him into a successful quarterback. Along with the coaches helping him master their offense, Roethlisberger is there to help the progression of the Steelers.
With Roethlisberger’s injury history, it’s possible Trubisky would see action year one in Pittsburgh.
As a backup, there’s less pressure for Trubisky. It’ll give him his first real chance to see the game slow down and learn to become a better player. If Chicago doesn’t work out, there are options for Trubisky.
