Chicago Bears: Free agent targets to address needs after NFL Draft
By Ryan Heckman
4. Safety Reshad Jones
I am not as crazy about the Bears signing Reshad Jones as I would be if they signed Jefferson, but both would be find candidates to bring in and compete for a starting spot next to Jackson. Jones only appeared in four games last season and dealt with multiple injuries, though, which is a little worrisome.
Last season, Jones missed six games due to an ankle injury, also dealt with a rib injury, and ended up being placed on injured reserve in November.
The 2-time Pro Bowler has been a good safety in this league for a while, but may have hit the end of the road. If he were to be completely cleared via physical, then I’d be fine with Chicago signing him to a cheap deal.
Jones has five seasons in his career with multiple interceptions while also totaling over seven passes defended in four separate years as well. At his peak, Jones was one of the better box safeties in the league, finishing with over 100 combined tackles three different years and and least 70 in three other seasons.
This offseason, he was cut by the Dolphins with two years still left on his deal. Obviously, Miami is moving in a younger direction just about everywhere on their roster, so the move makes sense. Now, Jones waits for his next (and maybe last) opportunity in the pros.
