Round Six, Pick 196: OT Alex Taylor, SC State

Eventually, the Bears will need to replace Charles Leno Jr. and Bobby Massie. And in what is considered to be a deep offensive line class, it won’t be a bad thing to draft someone on day three and see if they can develop into a starter at some point down the road.

What makes Alex Taylor so attractive is his measurables. Listed at 6-foot-9 and 308 pounds. This is what makes him such a quality option to play either left or right tackle at the next level. Sometimes in the NFL, offensive lineman who play at smaller schools are not ready to be starters right out of the gate and need time to develop.

Essentially, Taylor has the ceiling of being a starter if developed correctly. If he’s not a starter, the best-case scenario for him is that he ends up being a swing tackle. While most would view this as a significant dropoff in terms of his upside, with the right coaching, he’ll be able to develop into an asset for any team.
