3 players the Chicago Bears could trade during the 2020 NFL Draft
Mitch Trubisky
Last but not least, is Mitchell David Trubisky. Now, let me go on record by saying I think the chances of them trading Mitch this week/weekend are incredibly small. The recently acquired Nick Foles hasn’t played a full season in, well, forever. With an injury history of his own, it seems risky that the team would deal Trubisky who, if he doesn’t win the starting job, would be a more than competent backup. This front office has to win this year, and I just can’t see them dealing a player who knows this offense and potentially being one play away from putting their fate in the hands of a rookie quarterback.
However, I included his name in this list because something about the way Ryan Pace has handled this situation just doesn’t add up. Call it a hunch, but something tells me there’s an outside chance Pace works a deal to send Trubisky somewhere for a fresh start.
For months, I’ve been wracking my brain trying to think of a reason why the team has not picked up his fifth-year option, considering they can rescind it except for injury. Perhaps they wanted him to feel the pressure of a true competition? Fine, but they have to make a decision by May 4th, well before any “competition” would begin in training camp.
So what exactly are they waiting for? What could they possibly learn or discover in the next 12 days that would impact their decision?
Interestingly, Pace indicated not that he would take until the 4th to make the call, but that he would “cross that bridge once [he] got through the weekend” meaning the NFL Draft. Could that have been a subconscious admission that he has plans to test the market for Mitch? Again, it’s just a hunch, but it’s a nagging feeling that won’t go away.
