2. Brycen Hopkins, Purdue

I absolutely love Brycen Hopkins as a fit with the Bears, and he might be the best fit out of all these guys. He is a true receiver at the position, but a technician where it counts, too. It is impressive to me, above everything else, the way Hopkins runs his routes. He has a feel for the game and can work his way open just by how crisp he gets in and out of his breaks.

Hopkins is an ideal target for the Bears, and I love where he’s being mocked right up to this weekend. If he is available in the fourth round, and the Bears have a pick there, he’s a no-brainer. Hopkins is the ultimate value with where he’s projected right now. Let’s not forget he was once looked at as potentially the top tight end in his class.

1. Cole Kmet, Notre Dame

I am reluctantly placing Cole Kmet at number one on this list, but because he is a big body, a 6-foot-6 frame and can go up and make contested catches, he’s here. He has the making of a number one tight end, that’s for sure. But, I wish I saw just a little more speed out of him, as well as an ability to block at a higher level. At this point, I’m being picky.

There is no denying that Kmet can make all the catches you want in a tight end, and believe me, I wouldn’t be upset if the Bears grabbed him. However, I do not think the Bears should draft him in the second round — that’s just the way I see it, and I could be proven wrong.

If Kmet is there towards the beginning of the third round, and the Bears have traded back, then I’m ecstatic to have him. But, I hope they focus more on other needs rather than reaching high for a tight end, no matter who he is.
