Chicago Sports: The legendary number 23 for each team

The Chicago Bears have had some great players that make up the face of the franchise. When you think of the Bears, Walter Payton, William Perry, Brian Urlacher, and Mike Singletary are some names that come to mind. Well, Devin Hester was certainly one of the most exciting players to ever put on a Chicago Bears uniform. His tenure with the Bears were some of the most fun years in the history of the team.

He was a member of the Chicago Bears from 2006-2013 and he wore the great number 23. While wearing that number, he became the greatest kick returner in the history of the National Football League. The highlight of his career has to be when he returned the opening kickoff of Super Bowl XLI. The Bears ended up losing the big game but Hester was amazing and extremely exciting.

In the weeks leading up to that Super Bowl, the Indianapolis Colts were back and forth in the media about whether or not they were going to kick to Hester. Not many return men in the history of the NFL have created that much fear in the eyes of their opponents. Since 2013, they gave 23 to Kyle Fuller who is a pretty good player, but the best player to wear 23 was Hester. Shaun Gayle also deserves a shoutout as he wore 23 for the ’85 Bears.
