128. . RF. Chicago White Sox. Jermaine Dye. 23. player

The Chicago White Sox have had many great players wear the black pinstripes over the years. The 2005 World Series team might go down as the greatest team in franchise history. One of the leaders of that team was Jermaine Dye. He wore the great number 23 en route to becoming a World Series Champion and World Series MVP.

Dye wore the number specifically because of Michael Jordan, according to him. He put out a tweet after the two debut episodes of “The Last Dance” that stated such. He wore 24 in every other MLB home that he had but when he got to the city that Michael played in, he wanted to wear the number of his childhood idol.

Well, wearing the number 23 did wonders for Dye. He was a key piece to the White Sox winning that awesome 2005 World Series. He won the MVP because he was so good in that series. Jermaine Dye is a Chicago legend in his own right and will forever be remembered fondly for what he did. Even after the World Series year, Dye continued to be an elite player for a long time to follow. His number 23 is not retired by the White Sox, but you wonder if they ever will retire it. Only Mark Teahen has worn it since then for a brief period.
