Round 2 Target: Antoine Winfield Jr, S, Minnesota

If the Bears simply stand pat and make a selection at No. 43 overall, the safety position stands out as an obvious target for the team. There are plenty of talented safties in the 2020 NFL Draft class and the early-to-mid second round seems like where many of them will start to come off of the board.

Grant Delpit, Jeremy Chinn and Ashtyn Davis would all be worthy safety options for the Bears in the second round, but Antoine Winfield Jr. stands out as my favorite player of the bunch.

Winfield is an extremely aggressive and athletic safety prospect who flies around and makes plays all over the field. He is a tremendous in-the-box defender who shows great block shed ability and is a reliable tackler in space. Winfield is a physical run defender and tough in short zone coverage. This guy is not afraid to come up and lay the wood to an offensive playmaker.

On top of that, Winfield shows tremendous range and impressive ball skills on the back-end. He is an impressive overall player who could fill a variety of roles at the next level. For the Chicago Bears, Winfield stands out as a great fit next to Eddie Jackson as he would be able to take care of in-the-box responsibilities while Jackson takes care of the back-end. Having a playmaking duo like Jackson and Winfield at the safety position would take the Bears’ defense to the next level.
