2. DE Yetur Gross-Matos, Penn State

The Bears need edge-rushing depth behind Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn but Yetur Gross-Matos shouldn’t be the guy that they target. Here’s why: Gross-Matos is freak of nature and a great athlete but he has some trouble converting speed to power. Does that sound familiar? Because it’s exactly what Leonard Floyd had trouble with during his four years in Chicago.

Gross-Matos was a highly productive player in college with 18.5 sacks and 36.5 tackles for loss. While those are eye-opening numbers, keep in mind that numbers don’t tell the whole story about any NFL Draft prospect.

Another thing that Gross-Matos needs to develop is his technique. The improvement in this area is noticeable but he still isn’t refined and needs work. This is a bit of a concern since he has been a regular starter at Penn State over the last few years.

Overall, Gross-Matos projects to be a second-round pick but he’s not the right fit for the Bears. For a player that stuffed the stat sheet as much as Gross-Matos did, you’d think he’s a surefire prospect but he’s ranked behind guys like Chase Young and A.J. Epenesa.
