Chicago Bears: 5 tight ends to replace Trey Burton
By Ryan Heckman
3. Dallas Goedert, Philadelphia Eagles
This might be a long shot, but it’s worth mentioning. Zach Ertz is one of the best tight ends in the league, and I wonder how much money Dallas Goedert will want when he’s done with his rookie contract. I don’t see Ertz going anywhere in the near future, so a decision may have to be made sooner or later.
Goedert, another former first rounder, had one heck of a season last year even as a backup to Ertz. The Philadelphia Eagles use two tight ends very often, so it’s no surprise that Goedert came away with 58 receptions for 607 yards and five touchdowns in 2019.
The Bears’ tight end group would be immediately thrust into the category of “great” if they somehow landed Goedert. Just he alone would do that. He’s worth whatever price the Bears would have to pay — even if it includes one of their second-round picks this year.
Goedert is 6-foot-5 and, like Hopkins and Howard, is basically a large receiver. Goedert is ridiculously athletic for his size and runs routes like a wideout. He has exceptional hands and above average speed, which are two of the reasons he was a first-round selection back in 2018.
Like I said, this is tough to imagine. But, depending on what the Eagles’ plan is with their tight end group, getting something strong in return for Goedert might be a solid option.
