Chicago Bears: Five players to consider at 50th overall
By Usayd Koshul
4. QB Jalen Hurts, Oklahoma
Some entertain the idea of Jalen Hurts and some don’t. And it’s only because there are arguments for and against the Bears drafting him. The team already invested in quarterback by trading for Nick Foles to compete with Mitchell Trubisky. If the team drafts Hurts, it means that Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy are ready to give up on Trubisky.
Hurts is a natural leader and that’s one thing that any NFL franchise looks for in a quarterback. Besides his leadership abilities which have been on display since his time at Alabama, he’s got good footwork, is mobile, and has great pocket presence.
Hurts would be an ideal option for Pace and Nagy if they’re looking at 2021 already. The idea would be to have Foles or Trubisky start in 2020 and then eventually hand Hurts the keys to the franchise in 2021.
It’s likely that Hurts is there at 50th overall but with the way NFL teams reach for quarterbacks during this era, there’s no guarantee unlike the other four players on this list. Nonetheless, if the Bears are focused on the future, this is the right pick to make.
