2. DE Josh Uche, Michigan

Khalil Mack, Robert Quinn, Isaiah Irving, and Barkevious Mingo. After Mack and Quinn, there’s a significant dropoff in terms of depth for the Bears edge rushers. Mingo and Irving will be special teams contributors at best. Enter Josh Uche, who had 15.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss over a three-year period at Michigan.

The most interesting thing about Uche’s numbers is that two of those three years, he was a backup. He didn’t become a full-time starter until 2019 and yet was one of the most productive players on the team.

Uche brings plenty of burst to the position but that’s not why the Bears should consider drafting him. Ryan Pace needs to look hard at Uche for his versatility. Uche is the kind of player who can line up outside and rush the passer or he could blitz as an inside linebacker.

The reality is that Uche is one of the most intriguing prospects and if available at 50th overall, he could wind up being a major steal even though it may not look like it at first. Uche needs to be developed in some aspects of his game but overall, he’s a solid player that could carve out a big role on the Bears over the next few years.
