The Chicago Blackhawks are looking to revamp their defense. Adding a stud from the first round could go a long way in that happening for them.

The Chicago Blackhawks had a rough year. They were very inconsistent throughout the year as anytime they went on a winning streak, they would follow it up with lengthy losing streaks. They never just put together a string of good hockey for longer than a week or so at a time. A lot of it had to do with their defense.

The forwards were mostly fine, although they still need some more depth. The goaltending was awesome between Corey Crawford and Robin Lehner. After that, the defense wasn’t great which made things difficult for them to be a consistent winner. They definitely need to address that for the future otherwise it is going to be more of the same.

Earlier this week, they signed Ian Mitchell to his entry-level deal. That is a really good start to turning this defense into a younger, speedier, version of itself. He and Adam Boqvist might be able to anchor the back end for a long time if everything works out well. Those two should complement Duncan Keith as he tries to play well into the twilight of his career.

Brent Seabrook may or may not be on the Blackhawks by the time the next season begins. They also have guys like Calvin de Haan and Connor Murphy in the mix as well. Well, the Blackhawks could look to the 2020 NHL Draft for some help in that department. It isn’t as deep at the position as it has been in recent memory but there are still plenty of impactful options. These are the three best options for them to draft in the top-15:
