The Chicago Cubs were able to play against the great Jackie Robinson during his time playing in the MLB. On Jackie Robinson Day, we look at the numbers.

The Chicago Cubs, playing in the National League, have had the pleasure of playing against Jackie Robinson’s Brooklyn Dodgers during his career. He played in the MLB for 10 years which allowed him to break the Major League Baseball color barrier. The Cubs were one of seven National League teams that got to play against Robinson in the regular season.

Out of those seven teams, the Cubs were one of only three that Robinson didn’t hit .300 or better against. His lifetime average against the Cubs was .294 which is still very good. His slash line was an impressive .294/.401/.465. He had 104 RBIs and 17 home runs against the Cubs as well. His raw contact numbers and his power numbers were also awesome. He played well against every team and the Cubs were no different.

Robinson appeared in a total of 195 games against the Cubs and started in 186 out of those 195. It is a lot of games but only the Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Braves, Cincinnati Redlegs, New York Giants, and St. Louis Cardinals also got to play them. He also appeared in the World Series multiple times but the Dodgers only played the New York Yankees from the American League every time.

The fact that Robinson got to come to Wrigley Field is definitely something that is cool to think about for Chicagoans. He is truly one of the great players to ever play the game along with the cultural impact that he had on the game. There have been many great African American players that have played crucial roles in successful Cubs teams.

Robinson is in the Hall of Fame for being an elite player for ten years in the big leagues. On top of winning the World Series in 1955, he has an MVP, rookie of the year, batting title, and was a six-time All-Star. There won’t be any baseball played today with everyone wearing number 42 but we can remember him in many different ways. Robinson is so clearly one of the most important players in the history of sports.
