Chicago Bears 2020 NFL Draft: 5 players to avoid at pick 43
By Usayd Koshul
5. OT Lucas Niang, TCU
One of the hottest topics of conversation for the Bears fanbase this offseason has been potentially upgrading the offensive tackles. However, the Bears have made no moves so far that indicate that someone other than Charles Leno Jr. or Bobby Massie. However, the Bears can add someone via the NFL Draft.
At 43rd overall, the Bears could have a plethora of options such as Austin Jackson (USC), Josh Jones (USC), and Ezra Cleveland (Boise State). However, they need to avoid TCU’s Lucas Niang. While Niang is viewed by many as someone who’s a potential ten-year starter in the NFL, he’s had a history of injuries that make him such a risky prospect.
The biggest area of an offense where Niang can have an impact is in the running game. He’s a big, agile prospect who can easily get to the second and third level and continue to have an impact. Most view Niang as someone who can only fit in a specific type of scheme yet he’s got what it takes to fit inside any running scheme in the NFL.
Due to Niang’s final college season ending early because of a shoulder injury, there’s no way of knowing some of the measurable numbers he would have put up had he been able to participate in the NFL scouting combine. This is primarily what makes him such a risky selection.
