Chicago Bears 2020 NFL Draft: 5 players to avoid at pick 43
By Usayd Koshul
3. CB Trevon Diggs, Alabama
Right now, the Bears have just two proven cornerbacks on the roster: Kyle Fuller and Buster Skrine. Other names like Kevin Toliver, Duke Shelley, Artie Burns, and Tre Roberson are either unproven or need time to develop. In such a deep cornerback class, the Bears have to talk about taking a cornerback right?
If Ryan Pace does, he needs to avoid Trevon Diggs. While Diggs possesses elite measurables in terms of height and arm length (six-foot-one, 32.75 inch arms). Essentially, this makes him a very tall and long cornerback prospect but he still leaves a lot to be desired.
Perhaps the biggest issue with Diggs that tends to stick out on tape is his technique. There are times where he simply looks lazy in regards to his footwork. Another area where he needs to improve is his tackling, where he needs to play with more fundamentally sound technique.
The reality with Diggs is that there’s a lot to like but also a lot that he needs to work on. The issues with technique are the biggest reasons that the Bears need to avoid him because he’s a guy who went to one of the best college football programs in the country, which has produced solid defensive backs like Marlon Humphrey, Eddie Jackson, and Minkah Fitzpatrick.
