Chicago Bears 7-Round Mock Draft: A perfect trade back scenario
By Ryan Heckman
Round 4, Pick 109: Tight End Brycen Hopkins, Purdue
Remember a few months ago when Brycen Hopkins was talked about as the best tight end in this class? Then, the Combine happened and people started paying closer attention to Cole Kmet, Adam Trautman, among others.
Still, Hopkins is exactly what the Bears would love to have at the position. He is a route-running, pass-catching tight end who can handle a high volume workload if need be.
Last year at Purdue, he caught 61 passes for 830 yards and seven touchdowns.
This guy really does everything well. He’s a great athlete, possessing enough speed (4.66 on his 40) and showing off nice footwork getting in and out of his routes.
With the Bears likely getting out of the Trey Burton experiment next year, Hopkins would be identical to what they had hoped they were getting with Burton. In the fourth round, Hopkins is a steal. The tight end class isn’t extremely touted, but with everything taken into consideration, I still like Hopkins better than anyone not named Kmet.
