Chicago Bears 7-Round Mock Draft: A perfect trade back scenario
By Ryan Heckman
Round 3, Pick 67: Safety Jeremy Chinn, Southern Illinois
First of all, how did we get here? Let’s cut to the chase.
Chicago would trade pick no. 50 to the Detroit Lions for picks 67, 109 and 149. First up out of those three is safety Jeremy Chinn out of Southern Illinois, who the Bears grab at a great value.

Chinn has been a riser as of late, and very well could go in the second round. But, in executing this mock, he fell to 67 — which is enormous value.
I have highlighted Chinn recently as someone who I would love to see on the Bears, and here’s why: He can do it all as a box safety. Chinn is long, strong and physical.
On top of his physical style of play, Chinn is an athlete. He stands 6-foot-3 and boasts a 41-inch vertical. If he’s in coverage, do you know how difficult that makes it for a quarterback on a fade or post route? Chinn can go up and get the football.
He also has sideline-to-sideline speed, perfect for playing close to the line of scrimmage. He ran his 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds at the Combine, which is very impressive for a guy his size.
Assuming he fell this far, Chinn might end up being one of Pace’s better picks in his tenure with Chicago. He very well could pan out as the best safety in this class, but coming from a school like Southern Illinois makes that hard to project.
