Chicago Bears 2020 NFL Draft: Late-Round offensive sleepers to target
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 302 pounds
Arm Length: 33 ¾ inches
Hand Size: 10 inches
Hakeem Adeniji may end up being just out of the reach of the Chicago Bears. He is probably more of a fourth-round guy who could even end up finding himself sneaking into the end of Day 2. However, if the Bears trade down from one of their second-round picks or if they get lucky and Adeniji falls down the board a bit, they should be all over him.
Adeniji was a full-time four-year starter at Kansas, primarily playing left tackle for the Jayhawks. He quickly became one of their best and most reliable offensive players, showing impressive mobility and physicality up front.
With an impressive combination of length and athleticism, Adeniji shows a ton of promise in pass protection. However, his footwork and overall ability to mirror opposing edge rushers in pass protection leave plenty to be desired. Adeniji has the physical skill-set to be an impressive offensive tackle prospect at the next level, but he needs some refinement as a pass protector in order to reach his ceiling.
As a run blocker, Adeniji is incredibly physical and moves well in space. He is a tenacious run blocker who gets off of the ball quickly and consistently plays through the whistle. Adeniji also has success as a second-level blocker.
Many see Adeniji as more of an interior prospect at the next level and until he can clean up his footwork in pass protection, that will likely be the case. The Chicago Bears should be targeting Adeniji as a prospect who could potentially come in and help them right away at offensive guard. After a year or two of development, the Bears could then decide to kick Adeniji back out to tackle if they feel like he is ready and the need is there.
