The Chicago Blackhawks need defense. More importantly, they need impactful defensemen. Torey Krug is one of those guys. It is hard to see him moving on from the Boston Bruins but you never know. If he takes a small pay cut, he will stick with Boston. If he wants fair value, he might have to move on. All of Boston’s top players are on team-friendly deals and it is hard to see them making an exception for Krug.

Krug, if he left, deserves a nice little raise. He would really help the Blackhawks put their defense in a good spot. He would slot in as their number one defenseman right away. He is certainly gifted offensively and pretty good in his own zone. A lot of the league’s best offensive defensemen aren’t great in their own end but Krug isn’t bad. He has nine goals and 40 assists for 49 points so he is certainly one of the best offensive defensemen in the world.

With Boston, he plays with Brandon Carlo who is one of the best defensive defensemen in the league. If he came to a team like Chicago, they would be best suited to play a guy like Krug with Duncan Keith so he can be free to utilize his skills. This type of big-name defenseman would be great for Chicago as they look to make one more kick at the can.
