David Adelman

As mentioned above, Jim Boylen had an incredibly difficult time connecting with his players. His tough, Draconian, authoritative approach rubbed the younger players the wrong way and instantly created friction between him and the rest of the club.

In light of that, Karnisovas might consider bringing in a head coach who is younger, with fresher ideas about how to run a team. Bringing in someone who can more easily relate to players could go a long way in repairing the culture and improving morale in the locker room.

One such candidate who potentially fits that criteria is current Denver Nuggets assistant coach, David Adelman. Son of former NBA head coach, Rick Adelman (with whom Bulls fans are likely familiar) is someone who obviously has a level of familiarity with Karnisovas, both having served on the Nuggets’ staff.

However, Adelman doesn’t come without a fair amount of risk. He’s young, obviously, and so perhaps he is too green yet for a head coaching gig. He has been around the game his whole life, though, including five seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves (three as an assistant), two years as an assistant coach with the Orlando Magic, and now two seasons in Denver. If Karnisovas has concerns about his inexperience, one way to address it is by surrounding him with an experienced knowledgable staff. And hey, he always has the ear of his dad, a 23-year veteran who can help him navigate his way through the bumps.
