Chicago Bears: Five players to consider at 43rd overall
By Usayd Koshul
3. CB A.J. Terrell, Clemson
As of right now, the Bears have three cornerbacks on the roster that could potentially be starters when the 2020 season opens opposite Kyle Fuller: Artie Burns, Kevin Toliver, and Tre Roberson. Then there’s 2019 sixth-round draft pick Duke Shelley, who’s more of a slot cornerback.
But the issue is this: Roberson and Toliver are still unknown commodities while Burns is a former first-round pick that’s on his second NFL team after not succeeding with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
That’s why investing in a cornerback could be an option in the second-round, although there’s really a slim chance that the Bears do. A.J. Terrell is an interesting fit in Chuck Pagano’s defense. He’s one of the bigger cornerbacks in the 2020 NFL Draft weighing 195 pounds and being 6-foot-1.
Right off the bat, Terrell’s measurables make him such an intriguing prospect. He’s got the length needed to match up against bigger, physical wide receivers at the next level. However, he’s not the most physical tackler, meaning that he’ll need to improve at tackling when makes the jump to the NFL.
At best, Terrell could very well come in day one and start over Roberson, Shelley, Toliver, and Burns. Or he could take a year to get adjusted and adjust to having to be a situational player during his first year in the NFL. Regardless, he’s an intriguing prospect that should draw some consideration at 43rd overall.
