Chicago Bears: Five players to consider at 43rd overall
By Usayd Koshul
2. IOL Cesar Ruiz, Michigan
At the right guard position, if there’s one thing that’s clear, it’s that the Bears don’t have a clear starter in mind. Rashaad Coward and Alex Bars were too inconsistent in 2019 while Germain Ifedi, who was signed in free agency, is a former first-round pick who’s looking to get his career back on track after an up-and-down four years in Seattle.
Enter Michigan’s Cesar Ruiz, who’s one of the youngest draft prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft at just 20 years old. While most would think that Ruiz’s age means a lack of experience, he’s one of the most intriguing prospects in this draft.
Right off the bat, the first thing to love about Ruiz is the power and toughness that he brings to the position. Then, his IQ and technique are refined making him perhaps the most complete interior offensive lineman in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Overall, drafting Ruiz would give the Bears a player that’s still getting better at his position. To be clear, he’s not a project by any means and while there will be a learning curve that exists as he transitions from college to the NFL, he still has the potential to be a long-term starter for any team if developed correctly.
