Chicago Bulls: Ranking every 1st round pick from 2010s
By Ryan Heckman
9. Point Guard Marquis Teague, Kentucky (2012)
The Bulls took point guard Marquis Teague out of Kentucky with the 29th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. By far and away, this was the team’s worst pick in the last decade.
Sure, late first rounders don’t always pan out, and rarely do second-round picks. But, in this case, the Bulls took a kid who was clearly not ready for the NBA. Teague lasted only three seasons in the league, sadly. Oddly enough, also, after his first two years with the Bulls, Teague took a 3-year hiatus from the NBA and played for a variety of teams, whether overseas or in a developmental league.
He came back to the NBA to play one more year with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2017-2018.
Over his three years in the league, Teague averaged 2.4 points, 1.5 assists, 1.0 rebounds and shot just 34 percent from the field. He appeared in 91 career games, per Basketball Reference.
Other players the Bulls could have taken (who went in the second round, mind you) are a little sobering. Of course, this was the draft where Draymond Green went in the second round. Among other second-round picks were Khris Middleton, Jae Crowder, Mike Scott and Will Barton.
