Chicago Blackhawks: Analyzing every No. 1 pick since Patrick Kane
Yes, it’s been two whole players since the last time the Edmonton Oilers came up on this list. Well, they remarkably won the lottery for the fourth time in six seasons in 2015. They finally got lucky enough to win it in the perfect year. They won what was known as the “McDavid sweepstakes” with this lottery. They selected Connor McDavid with the first overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft and that changed the league as a whole forever.
For the longest time, the league belonged to Sidney Crosby. There are still people who might think that’s the case but McDavid is now the best player in the world. The numbers that he has put up have already put him on a fast track to the Hall of Fame. He has 162 goals and 307 assists for 469 points in 351 games. He legitimately might have 1000 points before he even gets to 28 years old. At 23 with the numbers he has already put up, hockey fans have a lot to look forward to.
When McDavid is in town it is must-see. When the Oilers are on, it is must-see TV. He has played the Blackhawks 11 times in his career and somehow, by his standards, he has only done okay. He has two goals and 8 assists for 10 points in those 11 games. How well does a player have to be only “okay” with 10 points in 11 games? Well, the Blackhawks join the St. Louis Blues and Buffalo Sabres as the only teams in the NHL that McDavid isn’t averaging more than a point per game.
