Chicago Blackhawks: Analyzing every No. 1 pick since Patrick Kane
The Edmonton Oilers have been a bad team for a long time. The team that Wayne Gretzky played for was so dominant for a long time back in the day but their triumphs in the Draft Lottery have been the most notable thing about them over the past decade. In 2010, the lottery balls went their way and they won the first overall pick. This draft presented a very intriguing choice of players to choose from at the top.
Taylor Hall vs Tyler Seguin, or Taylor vs Tyler, was the NHL’s biggest storyline going into that year’s edition of the draft. Well, the Oilers decided to go with Taylor Hall and the rest is history. Hall was a very good player for them for a long time but it didn’t translate to team success. They traded Hall to the New Jersey Devils in a deal that the Oilers look silly for making in hindsight. Hall went to New Jersey and won the Hart Trophy as the league MVP in 2018.
The Devils traded him to the Arizona Coyotes because of his contract situation as his big free agency looms this summer. Hall has been a great player everywhere he has been but he is the only active first overall pick since Kane to be traded. Taylor has 218 goals and 345 assists for 563 career points. Against the Hawks, Hall has 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points in 24 games against them. For some reason, he plays extra well when he is facing Chicago’s team.
